# Money, dates & times

Three conventions that apply to every endpoint. Get them right once and prices and stays will always match what the hotel sees.

## [Money](#money)

Amounts are **decimal strings** with two decimal places, in the property's local `currency` (ISO 4217):

```json
{ "currency": "USD", "average_nightly_rate": "358.33", "tax_total": "169.06", "total": "1244.06" }
```

Never parse amounts as floats

Use a decimal type (`decimal.Decimal` in Python, `BigDecimal` in Java, a decimal library in JavaScript) or integer minor units. Floating point will drift by a cent sooner or later.

Each property prices in its own currency. Kong Tower Manhattan quotes in USD, Kong Summit Mayfair in GBP and Kong Lagoon Uluwatu in IDR. Convert for display if you need to, but always book in the property's currency.

## [Stay dates](#stay-dates)

- Stay dates are `YYYY-MM-DD` in the **property's local calendar**, not yours and not UTC.
- `check_out` is the **departure date**. A stay from `2026-12-04` to `2026-12-07` is three nights.
- `check_in` must be today or later, in the property's time zone. A stay can be up to 30 nights.

## [Timestamps](#timestamps)

Timestamps are ISO 8601. Cancellation deadlines carry the **property's UTC offset**, so you can show the guest the local deadline without a time-zone lookup:

```json
{ "free_cancellation_until": "2026-12-03T16:00:00-05:00" }
```
